First step is always back regardless. It is better to keep the ball in front of you so there are no extra bases. Nice firstbaseman’s glove in the outfield!

First step always back, what’s with the first base glove DUHHHH
February 19th, 2009 at 11:14 am
Always back…..
February 21st, 2009 at 1:31 pm
Yeah whats he talking about, the first move is always back! Because its easier to right forward if you have to, then to have to run backwards.
March 15th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
most of this is good information but your first move in the outfield is always back….and when you drop the knee, your kneecap should be faceing to the side.
April 9th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
ok well your first move is always back? .. on you have a first base glove! .. duh!
April 19th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
The first step should be back, but I think what he is saying is that if you don’ t have a good read on the ball, stop, then pursue. Why waste a step back?
May 4th, 2009 at 9:56 pm
he looks like he gets to the side of the ball when he tells us you should always get your body in front of the ball not the side just in case if you were to miss it you would at least stop the ball with your body but the side its going past you
May 11th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Hopefully, I’ll remember all this on the field cause it looks hard!
May 23rd, 2009 at 12:54 pm
what if it’s a high grounder or a bad hop?
June 19th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Hmmm…notice the first baseman glove he’s wearing. So we got a 1B talking about outfield drills….
July 1st, 2009 at 2:52 am
First move is “not” always back….first move is determining where that ball is gonna be landing and then u make your 2nd move which is either back, forward or to either side…duh. And just because he has a first basemans glove on means nothing.

This is such a horrible video plus who ever learns how to do outfield drills off of you tube is a loser. and it makes them worse cuz ur a horrible coach/ video maker
September 13th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
1/5 shit vid dont make anymore vids this is total shit ur teaching us how 2 play the outfeild in a first base mit and ur first step should always b back because its better to have the ball infront of u then behind you dont say shit you dont know about dumb ass and if i didnt say you look like a pedafile
September 16th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
I was always trained to make my first move a small step back.
September 20th, 2009 at 11:42 am
i was gonna say the same thing.lol
September 21st, 2009 at 6:07 am
Wearing a 1B does matter you ass! Especially when he’s saying a direct quote @ 9 secs “us as outfielders have to be ready to move” Some things he says is ok. A good outfield will sometimes anticipate where the ball is hit by knowing what his pitcher is going to do with the pitch to the batter & all batters have tendencies which can help the fielder adjust & prepare….this can also be called having baseball savvy!!!! REAL BALLPLAYERS HAVE SAVVY!!!!!!! Many of you leaving quotes do not….
November 11th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
same here, its always easier to run back then in than in then back
November 26th, 2009 at 11:53 am
well instead of taiking shit why dont you show everyone how its done make a video major leaguer!!!!
March 1st, 2010 at 8:38 pm
